COURSE OVERVIEW
This Level 3 AAQ (Alternative Academic Qualification) in Allied Health Professions allows students to engage in a broad investigation of various aspects of the health and social care sector. This AAQ is a Pearson Level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care and is a two-year course which is the equivalent of 1 A Level.
Students will develop the following:
· Values and skills expected of professionals, including communication and listening skills
· Organisational and critical thinking skills
· The importance of cultural and social intelligence when working with individuals with differing needs across the lifespan
· Methods of managing challenging situations
Students will develop knowledge and skills throughout this qualification that are key to health and social care related degrees.
Students will have the opportunity to develop transferable skills becoming well-rounded individuals, better prepared for the demands of Higher Education.
Students will also take part in work experience in a setting of their choice which will allow them to apply their learning through theory into practice in a variety of different settings.
FURTHER INFORMATION
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4, including a grade 4 in GCSE English Language. Science and Maths at a grade 4 would be an advantage. You are not expected to have studied any of the topics on this course previously but must have a career ambition related to Health and Social Care.
This course will sit alongside two other courses, such as A Levels, BTECs or AAQs, and goes perfectly with:
· AAQ in Human Biology
· A Level PE
· BTEC Sport & Exercise Science
· A Level Psychology
· BTEC Applied Psychology
· A Level Sociology
· A Level Biology
· AAQ in Applied Science with Forensics
Students who complete this AAQ (plus 2 other level 3 qualifications) can continue to study at degree level in courses such as Nursing/Midwifery, Social Work, Education, Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy/ SALT, Paramedic Science and more! or they can apply for various Band 3/ 4 roles within the NHS. Routes into apprenticeships are also available.
There are two externally assessed (Exam) units:
· Unit 1: Human Lifespan and Development
· Unit 2: Human Biology and Health
There are also two internally assessed units:
· Unit 3: Health and Social Care Practice
· Unit 7: Health Science
The internally assessed units give students the opportunity to engage in applied knowledge and understanding tasks to develop their health and social care knowledge.
